WAVERLY, Iowa --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team recorded a pair of sweeps against Saint Ambrose and Wartburg Sunday as it defeated the Fighting Bees 7-0 and the Knights 9-0.
MSU now owns a 3-1 record on the season.
Against Saint Ambrose the Mavericks swept the three doubles matches to claim the dual's first point. Junior
Tristen Bryant-Otake and freshman
Hana Minisy bested Kiersten Housenga and Maggie Sullivan 6-0 in the No. 1 doubles match, while freshmen
Avery Stilwell and
Taylor Julsrud topped Kaylee Camp Kelsey Jaeger 6-3 in the No. 2 doubles match. Freshmen
Grace Ackerman and
Elizabeth Felderman swept Lily Malas and Alison Hanson 6-0 in the No. 3 doubles match also.
The Mavericks then swept the six singles matches to complete the 7-0 sweep. Bryant-Otake defeated Housenga 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match, while Felderman held a 6-0, 2-0 lead in the No. 2 singles match before Camp had to retire due to injury. Stilwell bested Sullivan 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles match, while Minisy defeated Jaeger 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles match. Julsrud and claimed the win in the No. 5 singles match against Malas by the scores of 6-0, 4-6, 10-5, while freshman
Brynn Psooy tallied a 6-2, 1-6, 12-10 win over Paige Bily in the No. 6 singles match.
Minnesota State finished its day with a 9-0 sweep over Wartburg.
The duo of Bryant-Otake and Minisy won their second No. 1 doubles match of the day as they bested Olivia Phillips and Madison Overman 8-7. Felderman and Stilwell claimed an 8-1 win over Meadow Laduke and Ambriel Jacobs in the No. 2 doubles match, while Julsrud and Ackerman defeated Gabby Flynn and Alyssa Guse 8-5 in the No. 3 doubles match.
The Mavericks completed the sweep winning all six of the singles matches. Bryant-Otake posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Phillips in the No. 1 singles match, while Felderman defeated Overman 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles match. Stilwell posted her second No. 3 singles victory of the day as she defeated Laduke 6-1, 6-1, while Minisy topped Hutchinson 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles match. Julsrud upended Natalie Kaiser in three sets by the scores of 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 10-0 in the No. 5 singles match, while Psooy picked up her second No. 6 singles win of the day as she bested Flynn by the scores of 6-3, 1-6, 21-19.
Minnesota State returns to action at the two-day Gustavus Adolphus Invite in St. Peter, Minn., beginning on Saturday, Sept. 18.
