Reed Named to USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Hall of Fame

4/16/2020 12:57:00 PM

Mankato, Minn. --- Former Minnesota State stand-out Chris Reed has been selected for induction into the United StatesTrack & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Track & Field Athlete Hall of Fame.

A native of Omaha, Neb., Reed captured a pair of NCAA outdoor shot put titles over the course of his Minnesota State career and placed runner-up twice more at the national level. He claimed 13 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference crowns and earned 11 All-America honors between indoor and outdoor track & field.

Reed also left his mark on the NCAA DII record book as the then-No. 2 performer in the indoor shot put at 20.07m (65-10¼) and the then-No. 3 performer in the outdoor shot put at 19.99m (65-7).

He was especially prolific outdoors, where he starred in three of the four throwing events offered: discus, hammer and shot put. Reed nabbed All-America honors in each of those events as a junior and senior, and swept the slate clean at the 2014 NSIC Outdoor Championships.

An offensive lineman for the Maverick football team, Reed was an All-American as a senior in 2014 in helping lead Minnesota State to the NCAA DII national championship game.  He signed with Jacksonville of the National Football League as a free agent in summer of 2015 and has also played for the Miami Dolphins during the course of his professional career.

Reed joins national champion high jumper Jim Dilling as former Mavericks inducted into the USTFCCA Hall of Fame.
