Marc Michaelis has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Year.
Michaelis, who led Minnesota State in scoring on the season with 20-24--44, finished his four-year college career with 71-91--162 in 148 games. A two-time team captain, Michaelis tied for second on Minnesota State's career scoring list (DI era) and established a school record for career shorthanded goals with ten. His 44 points on the year tied for third in the country in scoring and tied for second in the country in points per game (1.42). He led the WCHA in goals per game (0.65), points per game (1.42), power play points (21), shorthanded goals (three) and game-winning goals (five). His shorthanded-goal total on the season also tied for the national lead. Michaelis was named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week after registering five points on three goals and two assists as the Mavericks claimed 10-0 and 8-0 victories over the visiting Chargers Feb. 21-22.
A four-time All-WCHA First Team selection and this year's WCHA Forward of the Year, Michaelis is the second player from Minnesota State to earn this honor, joining
C.J. Suess, who picked up WCHAÂ Player of the Year honors in 2018.
Minnesota State, which finished the season having captured its third-consecutive MacNaughton Cup as WCHA regular-season champions, finished 2019-20 with a 31-5-2 record.
