Box Score Houghton, Mich. --- Minnesota State outshot Michigan Tech by a 44-24 margin, but ended up absorbing a 3-1 loss to the host Huskies in a nonconference game played in Houghton Sunday.
Michigan Tech, playing in its third game of the season, got the game's first goal at 15:38 of the opening period when
Logan Ganie found a loose puck near the top of the left circle and wired a shot that beat Maverick junior netminder
Dryden McKay on the far side.
The Mavericks owned an 18-10 advantage in shots on goal in second period, but it became a 2-0 Huskies lead at 6:32 on a power play marker that came via a one-timer from junior defenseman
Eric Gotz.
Minnesota State continued to press in the third period, outshooting Tech by a 17-4 margin, and at 18:46 with McKay on the bench for an extra attacker, senior forward

Reggie Lutz past Tech netminder
Blake Pietala to pull the Mavericks within one in making the score 2-1. The goal, the first of the year for Gerads, was also assisted by freshman defenseman
Akito Hirose (first career point for Hirose). Tech's Brian Halonen closed out the scoring in the game with an empty-net goal, which came at the 19:56 mark and also was a power play goal.
The Mavericks went zero-for-three in power plays in the contest, while Michigan Tech finished with a two-for-five ledger with the man advantage.
Minnesota State (1-1-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) and Michigan Tech (1-1-1, 0-0-0 WCHA) play again Monday, with a 4:07 p.m. CST face-off scheduled for MTU's MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
