Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team shutout the Lindenwood Lions 3-0 in nonconference action Friday night at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
 
The first period went scoreless as the Mavericks outshot the Lions 9-4 through the first 20 minutes of play. Minnesota State broke through at the 3:02 mark in the second period as junior forward Brittyn Fleming scored her fourth goal of the season. Sophomore blueliner Anna Wilgren made a cross-ice pass to Fleming and from the left dot she squeezed the goal in between sophomore netminder Annika Asplundh and the left post. The 1-0 lead held through the second intermission.

The Mavericks scored two more goals in the final frame to make the final score read 3-0. At the 11:45 mark, senior captain Emily Antony scored on a power play for her fourth goal of the season. From a bad angle, Antony took a shot from the right side that deflected off Asplundh and into the net. Less than two minutes later, Wilgren found freshman winger Kennedy Bobyck streaking down the left side of the ice as Bobyck went top shelf for her second goal of the season and the final goal of the game.
 
Sophomore netminder Abigail Levy (5-9-3) now has three shutouts for the 2019-20 season and eight in her brief career so far. Levy stopped all 18 of the Lions' shots including four in the first period, nine in the second and five in the final period.

The Mavericks outshot the Lions by a 36-18 margin. Minnesota State went one-for-three on the power play, while Lindenwood did not convert on two chances with the man advantage.

Wilgren led the Mavericks with three points, assisting on all three goals. Senior forward Sophia Poinar also picked up a multi-point game with two assists on the first and third goals.
 
Now standing with a 9-14-5 (3-12-3-3 WCHA) record, the Mavericks and Lions will finish up the two game set tomorrow at 3:07 p.m., in Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
