Vermillion, S.D. --- The Minnesota State University volleyball team opened up the 2019 season with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-17) loss in an exhibition match with D-1 opening South Dakota.

The Maverick offense was led by Alivia Garbe with eight kills while Morgan Olson added seven.  Mara Quam led Minnesota State with 16 digs while Dana Schindler and Anissa Janzig each assisted on a pair of blocks.

The Mavericks will return to action Tuesday night at Taylor Center when they host Gustavus Adolphus for an exhibition match at 6:00 p.m., before opening the regular season at the Barry University Classic starting Sep. 6.
