ST. CLOUD,
Minn. -- The Minnesota State volleyball team (3-10, 1-4 NSIC) lost the match 3-0 to St. Cloud (9-4, 3-2 NSIC) on Thursday at Halenbeck Hall. The Mavericks closest set came in the second, when it moved from a 20-16 deficit to a 22-20 lead before St. Cloud took the set 27-25.
Addison Foor led MSU with seven kills and added five digs.
Jadyn Lester recorded 21 assists and finished with five digs.
Avery Klein collected a team-high nine digs while adding four kills and three total blocks.
Avery Rosenberg posted five total blocks and four kills while hitting .200.
SET ONE
After Foor's kill got MSU on the board at 3-1, St. Cloud won the next six points to build a 9-1 lead. MSU added kills from
Lily Riese,
Olivia Sturgis and
Savannah Meyer, plus a block by Sturgis and Riese, but the Huskies kept adding to the margin and led 17-8 after a Carlie Willis kill. MSU put together four straight points from there, with Rosenberg and Klein combining on back-to-back blocks before Riese and Rosenberg teamed for another block to make it 17-12. St. Cloud answered with five straight points, including a Laurin Hamann ace and an Abby Wachal kill, and later closed the set 25-13 on a Kinsey Mohwinkle kill.
SET TWO
The second set stayed even through 5-5, with Foor scoring two early kills and Sturgis joining Rosenberg on a block, before St. Cloud built a 12-7 lead and MSU cut it to 12-10 on Husky attack errors around a
Kyla Klein kill. St. Cloud later went ahead 20-16, but MSU took the next six points, the final five on
Kyla Klein's serve, as Foor delivered consecutive kills,
Kyla Klein served an ace and Sturgis and Lester combined on a block for a 22-20 lead. St. Cloud pulled even at 22-22, but Foor's kill put MSU back in front, and a St. Cloud service error and
Avery Klein's kill later gave MSU leads of 24-23 and 25-24 before the Huskies scored the final three points to take the set 27-25.
SET THREE
After an opening kill from Rosenberg, MSU traded points with the Huskies to a 4-4 tie, getting a block by Rosenberg and
Avery Klein and a kill from Klein before a St. Cloud service error leveled the set. St. Cloud then scored 10 straight points with Abby Wachal serving, using kills from Kinsey Mohwinkle, Shelby Kimm and Braya LaPlant along with two blocks involving Mohwinkle to move ahead 14-4. Lester, Sturgis and Foor had kills for MSU through the middle of the set, but St. Cloud pushed the lead to 23-8 on Laurin Hamann's ace before MSU scored three straight on Rosenberg kill, a Shelby Kimm bad set, and a
Kaelyn Wieland ace. St. Cloud got the final two points on Maverick attack errors to close the set 25-11.
