ORLANDO, Fla. --- Minnesota State finished its spring break trip with a 9-0 loss to North Carolina Wesleyan Thursday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.
With the loss, the Mavericks drop to 5-11 on the season, while NCWC improves to 4-3. MSU was originally scheduled to face Wilmington today, but their dual was cancelled.
In the doubles match, senior
Erin Streeter and junior
Monika Ryan nearly took the No. 1 doubles match but they fell to the team of Fariza Abdulloeva and Juilanna Johnson by the score of 6-4. The Battling Bishops would take the other two doubles matches to go up 3-0 early.
North Carolina Wesleyan would win all six of the singles matches as well to lock do the 9-0 sweep. Streeter faced off with Abdulloeva in the No. 1 singles match, but it was Abdulloeva who came away with the 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 win.
Yesterday, the Mavericks also fell to Indiana Wesleyan by the score of 9-0. IWU won all three of the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. The team of Streeter and Ryan put forth the best effort in the No. 1 doubles match but they fell by the score of 8-3 to Lizzie Bauss and Alex Mella.
The Wildcats then went on to win all six of the singles matches in straight sets to complete the 9-0 sweep. Sophomore
Tyanna Washa nearly forced a third set in the No. 3 singles match but she fell to Maddie Bemisderfer by the scores of 6-1, 6-4.
Minnesota State returns to action on Saturday, March 23, as it takes on Gustavus Adolphus and Southwest Minnesota State in St. Peter. The duals are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m, respectively.
