Mavericks Fall to Gusties and Mustangs in St. Peter

ST. PETER, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to Gustavus Adolphus and a 5-2 loss to Southwest Minnesota State Saturday in St. Peter, Minn.

MSU now owns a 5-13 record on the season, including a 3-5 NSIC record.

The Mavericks began the day with a 7-0 loss to Gustavus Adolphus. In the doubles matches, senior Erin Streeter and junior Monika Ryan bested Anna Stutz and Simona Potockova 7-5 in the No. 1 doubles match, but the Gusties were able to win the final two doubles matches to secure the first point of the dual.

GAC then went on to win all six of the singles matches in straight sets to lock down the 7-0 win. Sophomore Tyanna Washa took on Potockova in the No. 2 singles match, but she took the 6-1, 6-4 loss.

MSU finished the day with a 5-2 loss to the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs. Streeter and Ryan once again prevailed in the No. 1 doubles match as they defeated Paige Janka and Fatima Murphy 6-1, but the Mustangs were able to win the other two matches to claim the first point of the dual. Washa and sophomore Camila Ojeda went to a tie breaker against Hannah Starke and Cora Delich in the No. 2 doubles match, but the Mustangs managed to come away with the 7-6 (7-1). 

In the singles matches, the Mavericks won both the No. 1 and No. 2 matches, but the Mustangs were able to win the other four to claim the 5-2 win. Streeter bested Delich 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match, while Ryan defeated Murphy 6-4, 7-5. Washa went to a third set against Olivia Watzke in the No. 3 singles match, but Watzke was able to come away with the 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win.

Minnesota State concludes its regular season schedule next weekend with a pair of road duals as it takes on Augustana on Saturday, March 30, at 6:30 p.m., and Sioux Falls on Sunday, March 31, at 8:00 a.m.
