#1 Minnesota State Cruises Past Alaska Anchorage 7-1 Friday

Mankato, Minn.  ---  #1 Minnesota State got three points each from a pair of veteran forwards in cruising past Alaska Anchorage 7-1 Friday night in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game played in Mankato.

Senior winger Parker Tuomie had a goal and two assists in the win, while fellow senior and linemate Marc Michaelis added a trio of assists.

Minnesota State opened the scoring in the game at 1:42 of the first period with a power play goal from junior winger Dallas Gerads who redirected a pass from Tuomie past UAA netminder Kristian Stead to give the Mavericks an early lead. Michaelis also assisted on the play in extending his point-scoring streak to five games. It became a 2-0 Minnesota State lead at 6:09 after junior center Jake Jaremko took a pass from Nathan Smith to finish off a play that started in the defensive zone by sophomore defenseman Andy Carroll.

The Mavericks outshot the Seawolves by a 15-8 margin in the second period and it was a tic-tac-toe play that put the Mavericks up 3-0. Senior Charlie Gerard scored 41 seconds after the face-off at the start of the period for his seventh goal of the year.  Michaelis and Tuomie picked up assists on the play. At 5:36 Smith bounced the puck past Stead on a shot near the net in making it a 4-0 Maverick lead.

At 1:57 of the third period and off a face-off win by Michaelis, Tuomie connected for his fourth goal of the season in widening the lead to 5-0.  Senior captain Nick Rivera took the puck out from behind the goal line and backhanded a shot into the net at 13:44 for his first goal of the season.  UAA finally solved Dryden McKay on a goal by Brayden Camrud at 14:03 to make it 6-1.  Junior winger Reggie Lutz closed out the scoring when he cashed in on a two-on-one odd-man rush by taking a pass from Josh French before wristing a shot that beat Stead stickside at 18:21.

Sophomore netminder Dryden McKay, who finished with 18 stops, upped his record for the season to 8-1-1 with the win.

The Mavericks, now 9-1-1 overall and 6-1-0 WCHA for the season, outshot the Seawolves by a 34-20 margin in the game and went one-for-three in power plays in the game. UAA was zero-for-three in man-advantage opportunities.

The two teams conclude the two-game conference series tomorrow with a 6:07 p.m. face-off scheduled for Mankato Civic Center.
