Former Minnesota State captain C.J. Suess made his National Hockey League debut tonight when he suited up for the Winnipege Jets in a road game at San Jose.

Suess Makes National Hockey League Debut

Mankato, Minn. --- Former Minnesota State forward C.J. Suess (MSU 2014-18) made his National Hockey League debut Friday night when he suited up for Winnipeg in a road game at San Jose.

Suess, who was selected by the Jets in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL draft (129th overall), had 6:26 of ice time in a 3-2 Winnipeg win.

Named CCM West First Team All-American as a senior, Suess was a two-time team captain and the 2017-18 Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Year. The Forest Lake, Minn., native was also named 2017-18 WCHA Offensive Player of the Year and was a 2017-18 All-WCHA First Team selection. A Top Ten Finalist for Hobey Baker Award, he had 22 goals and 21 assists for 43 points in 2017-18 and ranked third in the nation with 521 face-off wins. He completed his four-year college career with 57 goals and 70 assists for 127 points to tie for fifth on school's career scoring list (NCAA DI-era).

Suess signed with the Jets following the conclusion of the 2017-18 season and had been playing with the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League prior to getting called up to the parent Jets.

Suess is the 14th former player from Minnesota State to play in the NHL. Besides Suess, other former Minnesota State players to play in the NHL include Tim Jackman (MSU 2000-02), Ryan Carter (2004-06), Grant Stevenson (MSU 2001-03), David Backes (MSU 2003-06), Steve Wagner (MSU 2004-07), Jon Kalinski (MSU 2005-08), Travis Morin (MSU 2003-07), Tyler Pitlick (MSU 2009-10), Eriah Hayes (MSU 2009-13), Kael Mouillierat MSU 2006-10) Casey Nelson (MSU 2013-16) Daniel Brickley (MSU 2015-18) and Teddy Blueger (MSU 2012-16).
