Mankato, Minn. --- Members of the Minnesota State men's hockey program have received invitations to participate in National Hockey League development camps this summer.
Minnesota State expects five current players to head to 2017 development camps including forwards
C.J. Franklin (Winnipeg) and
Marc Michaelis (Minnesota). A pair of incoming forwards
Walker Duehr (New York Rangers) and
Jared Spooner (Winnipeg), along with defenseman
Connor Mackey (Calgary), have also received invitations.
Franklin, a senior captain for the Mavericks, was selected by the Jets in the 2014 NHL Draft. Winnipeg's camp is set for June 26-30. The Rangers host their camp at MSG Training Center June 25-30, while the Wild and the Flames haven't announced their camp dates.
NCAA student-athletes participating in NHL development camps do not have their eligibility affected. The camps give team draft picks and free agent invitees the chance to experience an NHL camp with team staff on and off the ice.
