MANKATO, Minn- Minnesota State Wrestling (6-3, 3-0 NSIC) will continue their home stand Thursday when they take on the Upper Iowa Peacocks (9-2, 5-0 NSIC) at Taylor Center starting at 7 p.m.
The Mavericks enter Thursday's matchup on a three dual win streak. Last time out the Mavericks controlled their dual against the University of Mary Marauders taking eight out of ten matches to win 33-7. The Peacocks hold a slight 5-4 edge in duals against the Mavericks, gaining the advantage with an 18-17 win last season in Iowa.
Senior
Adam Cooling represents the Mavericks in the individual rankings in the latest national poll, ranked third at the 174 pound weight class. The Mavericks have three additional wrestlers ranked regionally in
Andrew McFall at 125,
Tanner Mills at 141, and
Corey Abernathy at 184. The Mavericks are receiving points in the national poll and are currently third in the NSIC.
Upper Iowa enters Thursday's contest on a four match win streak and is currently tied for 24th in the national poll. The Peacocks have three wrestlers ranked individually in the national poll. Sophomore Damian Penichet is 11th at 149, Senior Colbey Vance is 10th at 165, and Junior Logan Hopp is 5th at 285. In their last contest Upper Iowa defeated #14 Northern State by a score of 43-3. Upper Iowa is coached by Heath Grimm who is in his 17
th season with the Peacocks.
Looking ahead the Mavericks will take on Southwest Minnesota State University at Taylor Center on Thursday February 2 before traveling to St. Cloud to face off against the Huskies on Saturday February 4.
