MANKATO, Minn- Minnesota State wrestling (5-3, 2-0 NSIC) will host the University of Mary Marauders Friday evening at Taylor Center starting at 7:00 P.M.
Minnesota State heads into the match-up Friday coming off of two dual wins. The Mavericks were last in action over the weekend traveling to Moorhead, Minnesota, defeating the Dragons by a score of 22-18. With that win the Mavericks improved to 5-3 overall and are undefeated in conference duals this season. The Mavericks hold an 11-0 record against the Marauders. Their last meeting occurred in Bismarck last season, where the Mavericks won seven matches gaining a 33-10 victory.
Minnesota State is led by Senior
Adam Cooling who boasts a 23-1 record this season. Cooling is ranked third nationally and currently leads the Mavericks this season in decisions (9), tech. falls (4), and major decision (8). Freshman
Matthew Blome rounds out the statistical categories, leading the team with 11 falls. The Mavericks have three wrestlers that are ranked regionally including
Tanner Mills ranked 7th at 141,
Corey Abernathy 4th at 184, and
Chris Zimmer 8th at 285.
The Marauders hold a record of 5-4 on the season and a conference mark of 1-1. In conference, University of Mary recorded a 25-10 victory over Minot and a 9-26 loss to Upper Iowa. The Marauders are led into Mankato by three regionally ranked wrestlers at the 133, 157, and 165 pound weight classes. Tate Barnhardt is ranked 7th at 133, Dane Fischer is 5th at 157, and Paul Michaelsen is 8th at 165. The Marauders are coached by former Minnesota State Assistant Coach, Adam Aho.
Following Friday's dual, the team will next compete on Thursday January 26 when the Mavericks host Upper Iowa at Taylor Center at 7:00 p.m.
