MANKATO, Minn- The Mavericks (4-3, 1-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) will travel to Moorhead, Minnesota Saturday to take on the Dragons in their first NSIC action of the new year. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The Mavericks are currently 1-0 against NSIC opponents this season after defeating Minot State in early December.

The Mavericks are coming off of a 38-3 victory against Saint John's on Tuesday night. Minnesota State won nine out of ten matches against the Johnnies. The victory was highlighted by first period pins for Louie Sanders (R-Fr., 141 lbs.) and Dylan Herman (Jr., 157 lbs.), and a 16-0 technical fall for Logan Saltou (Fr., 157 lbs.).

Minnesota State holds an impressive record in dual matches against Moorhead, boasting a 30-6-1 all-time record against the Dragons. The latest matchup between the two programs took place last season at Taylor Center. The Mavericks came away with a 29-18 win over the Dragons by taking six matches on the night. Adam Cooling (Sr., 174 lbs.) and Darick Vancura (Sr., 197 lbs.) claimed victories last season, both recording falls over their Moorhead opponents.

The Dragons currently hold a dual record of 3-4 and are currently receiving points in the latest national poll. Moorhead will wrestle in their first NSIC match of the season Friday night against Upper Iowa prior to facing the Mavericks. Leading Moorhead into the weekend is Senior Blake Bosch, who is wrestling at the 133 pound weight class. Bosch is currently ranked third nationally and recently recorded his 100th career win for the Dragons. Sophomore Kristian Vazquez is ranked sixth in the region at 141 pounds for the Dragons. Moorhead has been coached by Kris Nelson since 2009.

Following Saturdays dual, the team will return to Taylor Center Friday, Jan. 20 to take on University of Mary at 7 p.m.
