Box Score MANKATO, Minn.--- The Minnesota State baseball team lost its second game of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament Friday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn.
After the loss, the Mavericks record moves to 34-16 on the year.
Augustana grabbed the game's first runs in the top of the second inning, taking advantage of a Minnesota State error combined with three hits to go up 2-0.
The Vikings extended their lead with three more in the top of the fifth with a one-out three-run home run to make it a 5-0 game.
The Mavericks scored their first run in the bottom of the sixth inning when sophomore
Josh Wenzel led the frame off with a double to right center. The Maverick's center fielder eventually came around to score from third on senior
Taylor Branstad's infield ground out, moving the scoreboard to 5-1.
The Mavericks added one more in the bottom of the eighth with sophomore
Dylan Dresel hitting a bases-loaded infield grounder to bring in
Wenzel for his second run of the contest making it a 5-2 game.
Maverick starter, junior
Josh Matheson moved his record to 5-1 on the year with the loss in throwing four and one-third innings, giving up five runs on eight hits and striking out four.
At the plate, the Mavericks were led by sophomore
Luke Waldek who went 2-4 with a double while Wenzel batted 1-3 with a double and two runs scored.
The Vikings out hit the Mavericks 12-4 in the contest while each team recorded two errors.
Minnesota State was last ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II Central Region Poll. Â The NCAA regional tournament brackets will be announced Sunday at 9:00 p.m. CT on NCAA.com. Â The Central Region Tournament location has yet to be determined.
