OWATONNA, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team turned in its sixth NSIC victory of the season Saturday morning in Owatonna, Minn., as it defeated the Bemidji State Beavers 7-2.
With the win, the Mavericks improve to an 8-8 overall record, including a 6-4 NSIC record. With the loss, the Beavers drop to 10-5 on the season, including a 5-5 league record.
The Mavericks began the dual winning two of the three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead. The No. 1 doubles pairing of junior
Melissa Mashburn and freshman
Erin Streeter, along with the No. 2 doubles team of sophomore
Killian Doran and senior
Sarah McCann, each turned in 8-5 victories in their respective doubles matches.
Minnesota State would then go on to win five of the six singles matches to close out the dual with a 7-2 victory.
Mashburn won the No. 1 singles match over Shaylin Prout by the scores of 6-2, 6-1, while Streeter turned in a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Deanie Hatch in the No. 2 singles match. Streeter has now won three straight No. 2 singles matches.
Doran added a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over Morgan Opp in the third singles match, while sophomore
Lisa Dobbelaere defeated Claudia Bellew 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) in the fifth singles match. Junior
Katie Salinda turned in a 7-5, 6-2 win over Justine Scheller in the No. 6 singles match, which marks her first singles victory as a Maverick.
The Mavericks conclude their regular season schedule on Sunday as they take on Minnesota Crookston in St. Peter, Minn. The dual is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. Â
