Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla.--- The Minnesota State baseball program played a two games Tuesday in Winter Haven, Fla., winning the first game 5-3 against Walsh University and getting defeated 3-2 vs. West Chester University in game two.

With the split, the Mavericks move to 6-5 on the season and are scheduled to play two more before their annual Spring Trip wraps up. 

Both Walsh University and Minnesota State were only able to generate one run apiece in the first-three innings of play in the Mavericks first game on the day. WU grabbed the game's first lead in the top of the second as Austin Szink tallied the first of two Cavalier homeruns.  
The Mavericks answered with one of their own in the bottom of the third as freshman Jordan Hart hit a one-out single to get things going.  With two outs, senior Kyle Toth and junior Eric Peterson connected for two-straight single to score Hart, evening it up at one.

Walsh added two more runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to regain the lead, including another solo homer in the fourth inning to put the Cavs ahead 3-1. Minnesota State countered with three in the bottom half of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. With the bases loaded, Peterson took one for the team and wore a pitch to bring home Hart from third.  Senior Taylor Branstad and sophomore Josh Wenzel followed with consecutive singles, while Branstad collected two RBI.

The Mavericks added one more in the bottom of the sixth when Hart hit a one-out single and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Toth came up with a two-out single later on to bring in Hart, cementing the game at 5-3.

Starting pitcher, sophomore Dalton Roach claimed his first victory of the season in the win, throwing eight-complete innings and allowing three earned runs on nine Cavalier hits. Roach also dealt 10 strike-outs in the contest while allowing two walks.

Offensively, MSU out hit WU by a clip of 10-9, led by Toth (2-3, 1R, 1RBI) and Hart (2-4, 3R). With his two hits, Toth extended his hitting streak to seven games.

In MSU's second game, the Mavericks got on the board first in the top half of the third inning with a sacrifice fly by Branstad to go up 1-0.  

The game remained scoreless all the way up until the bottom of the seventh, when the Golden Rams pushed three runs across to take a 3-1 advantage.  

Minnesota State threatened one last time in the top of the eighth when a sacrifice fly from Toth got plated one last run for the Mavericks.

MSU was held to three hits in the second game to WCU's seven.  Maverick starting pitcher, Jon Ludwig took the loss for his first of the season. Peterson and Hart tallied Minnesota State's two runs in the 3-2 outcome.

Minnesota State will continue action Wednesday with a contest against Ashland University.  First pitch is slated for 11:00 a.m. EST., in Auburndale, Fla.
