Mankato, Minn. --- #19 Bowling Green scored first and never trailed in skating to a 3-1 road win a Western Collegiate Hockey Association foe Minnesota State in men's college hockey action Saturday in Mankato.
The visiting Falcons got the game's first goal at 18:22 of the opening stanza after
Mark Cooper, forechecking on the play, took the puck away from junior netminder
Cole Huggins behind the Minnesota State net before tucking it into the goal for his 11
th goal of the season.
Then, with the Mavericks on a power play at 9:18 of the second period, senior forward
Dylan Margonari, stationed in front of the BGSU net, got his stick on a shot from the point from
Sean Flanagan for his third goal of the year. The goal is Margonari's first goal with the man advantage this year and the sixth PPG of his four-year Minnesota State career. But Cooper gathered in a loose puck in front of the Minnesota State net and registered his second goal of the game at 14:31 of second frame to give the Falcons their second lead of the game.
The Falcons got an insurance tally from
Stephen Baylis at 15:23 of the final period to round out the scoring.
The Mavericks finished the game with a one-for-four performance with the man advantage. The Falcons were one-for- three on the power play in the game.
Senior
Cole Huggins, who stopped 21 shots, owns a 7-8-0 record with this evening's decision. The Mavericks, who entered the game ranking second in the country in shots on goal margin with an 11.2 SOGM/game mark, outshot the Falcons 32-24 in the game.
Minnesota State stands 15-10-5 overall and is 13-4-5 in WCHA action following tonight's game. Bowling Green ups its record to 16-9-5 overall, 12-5-5 WCHA.
The Mavericks continue league action with a road series at Alabama Huntsville next Friday and Saturday.
