Huntsville, Ala. --- #17 Minnesota State trailed in the game three different times in battling back to forge a3-3 overtime tie vs. Alabama Huntsville in Western Collegiate Hockey Association in men's college hockey action Friday in Huntsville.
Freshman
Madison Dunn pounced on a rebound at 9:22 of the opening period and with the power play goal, the Chargers took a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks responded at 12:25 on
Bryce Gervais' 11
th goal of the year and the two teams entered the locker room after twenty minutes deadlocked at 1-1.
The Chargers took their second lead of the game early into the second period after
Brent Fletcher scored on a shorthanded breakaway chance at the :28-second mark. Minnesota State bounced back at 1:48 on a
Zach Stepan power play goal. The goal is the sixth of the year for Stepan. Dunn put UAH up for the third time when he was credited with a goal that came at 10:16. On the play, which put the Chargers up 3-2, Minnesota State netminder
Cole Huggins had exited the net for an extra attacker on a delayed penalty call against UAH. The Mavericks passed the puck back to point where it bounced off the boards at the red line and went the length of the ice into the vacated net.
Gervais got his second goal of the game at 13:50 of the third period when his wrister from the top of the circles beat Matt Larose over the shoulder with the Mavericks on the power play. The goal, the 12
th of the year for Gervais, sent the game into a scoreless overtime.
Teddy Blueger, who was credited with assists on the first Gervais goal and Zach Stepan's tally, became the 11
th member of Minnesota State's Century Club in terms of career points for the program's NCAA Division I era. The Riga, Latvia native now has 28 goals and 73 assists for 101 career points in 145 games.
The Mavericks, who now own a 1-0-6 mark in overtime contests this year, finished the game with a two-for-seven performance with the man advantage. The Chargers were one-for-six on the power play in the game.

Cole Huggins, who stopped a penalty shot by UAH forward
Tyler Poulsen in the second period, finished with 15 saves and now owns a 7-8-1 record with this evening's decision. The Mavericks outshot the Chargers by a 38-18 margin in the game.
Minnesota State stands 15-10-6 overall and is 13-4-6 in WCHA action following tonight's game. Alabama Huntsville stands 6-17-4 overall, 4-13-4 WCHA for 2015-16
The two teams conclude the two-game league set Saturday with a 7:07 p.m. face-off scheduled for Von Braun Center.
