Huntsville, Ala. --- #17 Minnesota State scored first, but could not close out the win as Alabama Huntsville fought back and the two teams skated to a 1-1 overtime tie in Western Collegiate Hockey Association in men's college hockey action Saturday in Huntsville.
Following a scoreless opening frame in which the Mavericks outshot the Chargers by a 15-3 margin, sophomore forward
C.J. Franklin hammered home a one-timer that beat
Matt Larose on the stickside at 6:20 of the second period with Minnesota State on the power play. The goal is a team-best 13
th of the year for Franklin and his sixth power play marker.
That goal stood up until late in the final period as the Chargers continued to battle and at 18:57,
Matt Salhany broke into the Minnesota State zone on a shorthanded breakaway chance and beat
Cole Huggins to send the game into overtime for the second consecutive night.
Neither team was able to score in the extra session and the contest ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Mavericks, who now own a 1-0-7 mark in overtime contests this year, finished the game with a one-for-four performance with the man advantage. The Chargers went scoreless in three power play chances.

Cole Huggins finished with 19 saves and now owns a 7-8-2 record with this evening's decision. The Mavericks outshot the Chargers by a 50-20 margin in the game marking the most shots on goal Minnesota State has generated in a game this season.
Minnesota State stands 15-10-7 overall and is 13-4-7 in WCHA action following tonight's game. Alabama Huntsville stands 6-17-5 overall, 4-13-5 WCHA for 2015-16
The Mavericks, who are idle next weekend, play at Alaska Anchorage Feb. 26-27 in their next action before closing out the regular season March 4-5 with a home league series with Bemidji State.
