ABERDEEN, S.D. --- The Maverick wrestling team (9-4, 5-2) bested the Wolves of Northern State (5-13, 0-6) by a final score of 33-6 on Thursday. Minnesota State was victorious in eight of the ten matches.
The dual started off at the lightweights, where
Trevor Schultz (Jr., 125 lbs.) defeated Ben Cauffman by an 8-4 decision to give the Mavericks an early 3-0 lead.
Paul Selman (Fr., 133 lbs.) picked up his team-leading 22
nd win after defeating Carson Henry by an 8-6 decision to make it 6-0 Mavericks.
Alphonso Vruno (Sr., 141 lbs.) extended his winning streak to seven matches by picking up a technical fall over Matt Bettencourt, 20-5, to increase the Maverick lead to 11.
Daniel Close (Fr., 149 lbs.) lost a tight 6-4 decision to #8 Tyler Stenberg to put the Wolves on the board for the first time. #7
Matt Mincey (R-Sr., 157 lbs.) bounced back from a tough loss last week to defeat Blake Perryman by a 20-7 major decision. Mincey's 19
th win of the year made it 15-3 Minnesota State.
Brad Maas (Sr., 165 lbs.) won a close contest against Grant Steen, 5-3, to put the Maverick point total at 18.

Adam Cooling (Jr., 174 lbs.) won by a 19-3 technical fall over Ayden Garcia to up the Maverick lead to 23-3. Cooling now holds a record of 21-3 with the win.
Scott VanDeLoo (Sr., 184 lbs.) defeated David Murphy in a 14-4 major decision that opened the Maverick lead up to 24. In the final match of the night,
Darick Vancura (Jr., 197 lbs.) fought hard against #7 Joe Gomez, but ultimately fell 5-1.
Malcolm Allen (R-Sr., 285 lbs.) won by forfeit to finalize the Maverick win in a 33-6 effort.
The Mavericks are right back in action tomorrow night in a matchup with the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
