Fayette, Iowa --- In a dual that came down to the last match, the Mavericks (8-3, 4-1) lost a tough one to the Peacocks of Upper Iowa (13-1, 6-0) by a final score of 18-17.
 
The Mavericks started off down early in the dual, where the score was 7-0 heading into the 141-pound match.  Alphonso Vruno (Sr., 141 lbs.) started the scoring off for Minnesota State with a 3-1 overtime victory over Jordan Roths.  Upper Iowa would win the next match to make the score 10-3 Peacocks. 
 
#2 Matt Mincey (R-Sr., 157 lbs.) picked up an 8-1 decision over one of Upper Iowa's best wrestlers, Jordan Rinken.  Rinken was 24-1 coming into the dual, and Mincey moved to 18-0 with the win.  After dropping the 165-pound match, the score was 15-6 Upper Iowa.
 
#8 Adam Cooling (Jr., 174 lbs.) won by a 5-3 decision over Colbey Vance to make it 15-9 Peacocks.  Scott VanDeLoo (Sr., 184 lbs.) defeated Dalton Westerlund by a 6-4 decision to cut the Peacock lead to just three.  After losing by decision, the Upper Iowa lead was 18-12.
 
In the match of the night, Malcolm Allen (R-Sr., 285 lbs.) won by technical fall over Avery Jacobs, but it was not enough as the Mavericks were defeated for the first time in conference action this season by a final score of 18-17.  Allen had Jacobs on his back several times in the match, but Jacobs survived as time expired in both of the first two periods.
 
The Mavericks are off now until Saturday, where they will host their home finale against the #2 Huskies of St. Cloud State.  Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
