Mankato, Minn. --- A pair of Minnesota State men's hockey players have been selected 2014-15 AHCA/CCM All-Americans.
Senior forward Matt Leitner was named to the West First Team and senior defenseman Zach Palmquist was named to the West Second Team.
The duo are the fourth and fifth players from Minnesota State to be named NCAA Division I All-Americans, joining forwards Grant Stevenson (2002-03 West Second Team), Shane Joseph (2002-03 West Second Team) and David Backes (2005-06 West Second Team).
The only player in the history of the program to lead the Mavericks in scoring four consecutive seasons, Leitner finished his career with 49 goals and 113 assists for 162 points in 158 games to rank second on school's career scoring list (D1 era). Leitner, who ranks first all-time in school history for assists (DI-era) with 113 helpers and is a two-time All-WCHA First Team selection, registered 9-32--41 in 40 games played as a senior. Leitner led Minnesota State and ranked eighth in the nation with 475 face-off wins in 2014-15 and his .583 FO% ranked 11th in nation. He led the country with 22 power play points on six power play goals and 16 power play assists.
Palmquist served as an alternate captain and tied for fourth on the team in scoring with 29 points (8-21--29) including four power-play goals and 22 penalty minutes (PIM) in 40 games during his senior season for the Mavericks in 2014-15. The South St. Paul, Minn., native did not miss a game during his four seasons at Minnesota State playing in a school record 160 consecutive contests and recorded 96 points (25-71--96) and 109 PIM. His point total stands tied for first amongst school defenseman for the school's NCAA Division I-era (1996-97 to present).
