ST. PETER, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team ended a six dual losing streak Saturday evening as it defeated the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs 6-3.
With the win, MSU improves to 5-8 on the season, including a 5-3 record in NSIC play. With the loss, UMD falls to 4-8 to go along with a 3-5 conference record.
The Mavericks began the day winning two of the three doubles matches. The team of freshman
Killian Doran and junior
Sarah McCann defeated Alyssa Brunelli and Kara Saemann 8-3 in the No. 1 doubles match. Sophomore
Melissa Mashburn and freshman
Destiny Lee won the other doubles match for MSU as they bested Drew DeCorsey and Shelby Benkofske 8-2 in the second doubles match.
MSU finished the day winning four of the six singles matches to secure the 6-3 win over the Bulldogs.
Doran defeated Brunelli 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match, while Mashburn topped Saemann 6-2, 6-0 in the second singles match. McCann won the No. 3 singles match as she topped Benkofske 6-2, 6-3, while Lee won the No. 4 singles match against DeCorsey 6-2, 6-0.
The Mavericks wrap up their home schedule on Sunday as they square off against St. Cloud State in St. Peter, Minn. The dual is slated to start at 12:30 p.m.
