MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State wrestlers defeated the Dragons, 27-12 on Saturday at Moorhead. MSU (2-0, 2-0 NSIC) won seven out of the ten matches on the afternoon.
Darick Vancura (So., 174 lbs. 13-9) gave MSU a commanding lead with a fall at the 6:27 mark. over Michael Joseph. This gave Minnesota State a 20-9 lead with three matches remaining.
Scott VanDeLoo (Jr., 197 lbs. 18-7) and
Malcolm Allen(Jr., 285 lbs. 25-8) earned wins by a decision and a major decision win respectively, which closed the door on MSU Moorhead.
Da'Wayne Robertson (Jr., 125 lbs. 24-7) got the afternoon started with a major decision win and after losing the lead,
Alphonso Vruno (Jr., 141 lbs. 18-7) got the lead back with a 6-4 decision win.
Adam Cooling (So., 157 lbs. 12-4) earned a close decision win over Garret Hoffner. #4 rated
Cody Quinn (Sr., 165 lbs. 8-3) also won by a major decision, 9-1
Six other Mavericks wrestled at the Ridgewater Open in Ridgewater, Minn.
Max Bullock (So, 165 lbs. 3-1) placed third and
Brad Maas (Jr., 165 lbs. 4-1) placed fifth.
Tanner Mills (So., 141 lbs. (Unattached)) took first place and won with a fall against Tyler Pasvogel of St. Cloud State. Both
Colten Carlson (Fr., 174 lbs. (Unattached)) and
Cody Carson (Jr., 184 lbs. (Unattached)) placed second and
Vito DeGidio (Fr., 141 lbs (Unattached)) recorded a win on the day.
MSU will host Southwestern Minnesota State on Thursday in the Taylor Center. The dual will start at 7 p.m.
