SARTELL, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team finished its regular season schedule on a high note Sunday as it defeated Bemidji State 8-1.
With the win, MSU improves to 5-16 on the season, including a mark of 4-7 in NSIC action. With the loss, BSU drops to 6-7 on the season, including a mark of 3-6 in conference play.
MSU began the day winning two of the three doubles matches.
Junior
Shealyn Bakke and sophomore
Sarah McCann won the first doubles match over Shaylin Prout and Mikela Kowatsch by the score of 8-3. Senior
Alexis Ronney and freshman
Melissa Mashburn claimed the second doubles match over Caley Westin and Anna Markgraf by the score of 8-3 to give the Mavericks a 2-1 edge heading into the singles matches.
The Mavericks finished the day with a sweep of the singles matches to claim its 8-1 win.
McCann won the first singles match by the scores of 6-4, 6-2, while Mashburn took the second singles match by the scores of 6-2, 6-3. Bakke and sophomore
Alexis Haakedahl won the third and the fourth singles matches, respectively, by the scores of 6-0, 6-1. Ronney claimed the No. 5 singles match 6-2, 6-3, while freshman
Abby Schmidt won the sixth singles match by the scores of 2-6, 6-4, 10-6.
MSU will learn its postseason fate later this week. Should the Mavericks finish in the top-eight of the NSIC standings, they will advance to the NSIC Championships in Minnetonka, Minn., beginning Saturday, April 26.
