ST. PETER, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team lost its fourth NSIC dual of the season Friday as it fell to the MSU Moorhead Dragons 5-4.
With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 3-7 on the season, including a 2-4 record in NSIC play. With the win, the Dragons improved to 3-3 on the season, including a 3-2 mark in league play.
The Mavericks began the day losing all three of doubles matches to the Dragons. The pairing of junior
Shealyn Bakke and senior
Alexis Ronney put forth the best showing in doubles action as they fell to Cortnei Chance and Cassie Smith 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles match.
Minnesota State put forth a good effort in the singles matches but it could only manage four singles victories as the Dragons held on to the 5-4 win.
Freshman
Melissa Mashburn won the No. 2 singles match over Chance 6-3, 6-0, while Bakke defeated Rebecca Lukes 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles match. Ronney won the fifth singles match 6-1, 6-2 over Smith, while sophomore
Alexis Haakedahl won the fourth singles match 6-2, 6-4.
MSU returns to action Saturday as it takes on Gustavus Adolphus at 8:30 a.m., and St. Scholastica at 1:30 p.m.
