ABERDEEN, S.D. --- Minnesota State wrestling finished strong down the stretch to finish its regular season with a 28-11 win over Northern State, improving to 3-9 overall and 3-6 in NSIC action.
MSU and NSU split the first four weight classes including a major win by
Alphonso Vruno (So., 141 lbs.), 15-5, and a 3-2 decision by
Trevor Schultz (Fr., 125 lbs.), lifting each of their records to 17-11 overall and 10-18, respectively.
Adam Cooling (Fr., 157 lbs.) earned his 23rd win of the season with an 8-2 decision, before
Darick Vancura (Fr., 165 lbs.) recorded his first pinfall since Dec. 21, which came at the 4:03 mark and elevated his team-highs in victories (25) and falls (16).
Corby Running (Sr., 285 lbs.) and
Scott VanDeLoo (So., 184 lbs.) combined to earn the Mavericks' final twelve points. Running recorded a pinfall 27 seconds into the match and VanDeLoo won by forfeit.
All four of Northern State's wins were by decision, but the Wolves were deducted one point for an unsportsmanlike penalty.
