Omaha, Neb. – The Minnesota State women's basketball team fell to Creighton 85-68 on Wednesday night in a exhibition game.
In the first half it was back and forth game before the Mavericks were able to build an eight point advantage over the Bluejays, 30-22, with 7:22 left in the first half. However, Creighton was able to end the half on a 29-3 run to put the Mavericks down 53-33 going into halftime.
At the break, four Mavericks posted at least six points, which included senior guards
Ashley Olson and
Aubrey Davis, senior forward
Lexie Ulfers and freshman guard
Claire Jordan.
In the second half, MSU was able to cut its deficit as the Mavericks started the second half on a 23-11 run to make the score 64-56 with 7:49 left to play. That would be the closest the Mavericks would get for the rest of the game as the Bluejays finished the game on 21-12 run of their own.
Sophomore guard
Britney Scherber led the Mavericks in second half as she posted nine points, as Ulfers and Olson recorded seven and six points, respectively. Davis added another five points to her stat sheet, while freshman forward
Claire Ziegler tallied 10 rebounds in the second half.
Overall, four Mavericks finished in double-digits as Ulfers led the way with 13 points to go long with her six rebounds. Davis finished the game with 11 points, five assists and three steals as Olson and Jordan each ended the game with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Scherber pitched in with nine points, three rebounds and three assists while Ziegler led all players in the game with 10 rebounds.
The Mavericks will conclude their exhibition action on Saturday as they will take on UW-Eau Claire at Taylor Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
