Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's basketball team will travel up to Houghton, Mich. this weekend, for its final nonconference game of the season. The Mavericks will play Michigan Tech on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
The Mavericks stand at 3-1 overall on the short season after this past weekend's pair of games at the UMSL Classic. On Friday, MSU topped Maryville, 69-68 in late second fashion, as
Lexie Ulfers scored the game winning basket for the Mavericks with four seconds left in the game. Then on Saturday, the Purple and Gold fell victim for the first time this season to UMSL by the score of 83-68.
Scouting the Huskies: Michigan Tech, located out of Houghton Mich., is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). This will mark the seventh meeting between the two teams in program history as the Mavericks hold a 4-2 all-time record aginst the Huskies. The last time the two teams played each other was in 2009, as the Mavericks came out victorious with a 61-53 victory over the Huskies.
The Huskies are coached by Kim Cameron, who is entering her fifth season at the job. Last year, Michigan Tech finished with 19-9 overall record and a 16-6 GLIAC conference record which was good enough to finish tied for second in the in North Divsion of the GLIAC .
Michigan Tech's top returning player is junior forward Danielle Blake. She earned first-team
All-GLIAC and first-team
All-Defensive a year ago. Last year, Blake averaged 13.7 points and a team-high 6.8 rebounds a game.
This year, Michigan Tech is 2-0 on the short season after defeating Minnesota Duluth and Concordia-St. Paul. Blake is one of four players on the team averaging double-digits through two games. Leading the team in scoring average is sophomore guard Brenna Heise who is averaging 13 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks a game. Blake and senior forward Jillian Ritchie are both averaging 12.5 points a game, as Ritchie is also leading the team in three point percentage with 42.9% and with with 10 rebounds a game. Sophomore gurad Morgan Anderson is also averaging 10.5 points.

Sammie Delzotto and senior forward
Lexie Ulfers matched their career-highs with points in a game. Ulfers scored 16, including the game winning basket, in Friday's win over Maryville, while on Saturday Delzotto matched her career-high with 17 points in the losing effort to UMSL.
Inching Closer and Closer: Senior guard
Aubrey Davis added 16 points this weekend, which now puts her just 54 points from the 1,000 career mark.
