#14 Mavericks Trounce Minnesota Duluth

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- The No. 14 Minnesota State men's basketball team kept things rolling at Taylor Center Saturday evening as it surged passed the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs 89-54.

With the win, MSU improved to 13-2 on the season, including a 7-1 mark in NSIC play, and now boasts a five-game winning streak. With the loss, UMD fell to 5-7, with a 3-5 mark in league play.

The Mavericks saw several players make significant contributions on the day as five players notched at least 10 points on the day. Junior Assem Marei recorded his 10th career double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Connor O'Brien tallied his 14th career double-double netting 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Senior Tanner Adler led all scorers on the day with a career-high 26 points, which included a 6-of-7 showing from three-point land, to go along with seven rebounds. Freshman Mike Busack dropped in 11 points, while junior Zach Romashko tallied 10 of his own. Junior Zach Monaghan passed out 10 assists and posted eight points as well.

As a unit, MSU shot 51.8% (29-of-56) from the field and drained 22-of-30 (.733) shots from the line. The Mavericks also outrebounded the Bulldogs 52-30, while passing out 18 assists and limiting UMD to just three assists.

Peter Crawford led the UMD offense with 16 points, while Reece Zoelle added nine points and eight rebounds.

The first half saw some back and forth action early on, including four lead changes as the Bulldogs led 16-15 with 11:51 left in the first half. The Mavericks finish the half on a 27-11 run to take a 42-27 lead into the locker room.

Marei led all scorers in the first half as he tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, MSU shot 48% (12-of-25) from the field and to go along with 30 rebounds.

The Mavericks kept up the pressure in the second half as they outscored the Bulldogs 47-27, en route to the 89-54 win.

Adler led all scorers in the second half with 18 points, including a 4-of-5 performance from behind the three point line.

MSU hits the road for a pair of games beginning Friday as it takes on the Northern State Wolves. The opening tip is set for 8 p.m.
