Mavericks Improve to 7-4 with a 3-0 Win Over St. Cloud State

Box Score Mankato, Minn.--- The Mavericks returned to Taylor Center Friday evening as they defeated the St. Cloud State Huskies by a score of 3-0, to improve to 7-4 overall, with a mark of 3-1 in NSIC action.  
 
"We played pretty steady all night. We were able to build some momentum throughout the match," said head coach Dennis Amundson. "Some players are starting to fulfill some roles so we're gaining some rhythm. A lot of players contributed throughout the match. We have a big match tomorrow and we're looking forward to it." 
 
The Mavericks took the first set 25-21 against the Huskies. Sophomore Chandra Honebrink led the team through the first set with six kills along with junior Tiana Runck who hit .500 in the first set with five kills in ten attempts. 
 
The Mavericks jumped out in the second set quickly as they found themselves leading 13-4. They went on to take the second set 25-15 to build a two sets to none. Honebrink led MSU in kills once again with eight kills in nine attempts.  
 
Freshman Sydney Geisness helped the Mavericks to sweep the third set with five kills in six attempts as the Mavericks downed the Huskies 25-15. As a unit MSU was able to post a .344 hitting percentage, tallying 17 kills in the set.
 
Honebrink established a career-high with 18 kills and also led the team in digs recording eight digs in the set, while Runck finished the match with 12 kills.  Junior Jenna McNallan recorded five kills on 10 attempts also posting eight digs on the night. Sophomore Ellie Van De Steeg paced the Maverick offensive attack recording  47 assists in the three-set match.
 
The Mavericks return to action tomorrow as they host the top-rated team in the country, Minnesota
Duluth, first serve is slated for 4 p.m. in Taylor Center.
