Box Score Minneapolis, Minn. --- Ninth-rated Minnesota State opened the 2013 season with a split of a nonconference doubleheader with Winona State Saturday in a pair of games with Winona State held in the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
The Mavericks prevailed by a 14-0 margin in the first game before dropping a 3-0 decision in the night cap.
MSU held a 1-0 edge after three innings of play in the first game before exploding for six runs in the top of the fourth and seven in the sixth en route to opening the season with a win. Sophomore third baseman

Minnesota State, which stands 1-1 on the year, continues noncoference action tomorrow with two games against the University of Sioux Falls in the Metrodome.
