Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State was unable to hold off top-ranked Minnesota Saturday afternoon at All Seasons Arena as the Golden Gophers topped the Mavericks 7-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action.
 
MSU moves to 3-7-0 overall and 0-6-0 in the WCHA, while the Golden Gophers improve to 10-0-0 on the season and 8-0-0 in league play.
 
Minnesota scored the game's first goal by capitalizing on a Maverick defensive zone turnover.  Sophomore Maryanne Menefee took a pass and fed fellow sophomore Hannah Brandt who beat senior Danielle Butters (London, Ont.) above the glove on a wrist shot from the slot at 11:55 of the first period.
 
It appeared the score would remain 1-0 headed to the second intermission, but the Golden Gophers produced a pair of goals in the final 30 seconds of the second period. Junior Rachel Ramsey fired a blast from the point on the power-play that slipped through Butters' pads, and senior Kelly Terry was there to tap the puck in at 19:35. With two seconds remaining in the period, senior Bethany Brausen's shot slipped through the crease and deflected off the skate of sophomore Brook Garzone. The play went to review but was upheld giving Minnesota a 3-0 cushion.
 
It was all Golden Gophers in the third period as well starting with a goal from sophomore Milica McMillen at the 5:21 mark of the third period.  Terry added two more goals in the third period to complete that hat trick that bookended an additional marker from senior Baylee Gillanders to complete the 7-0 final.
 
MSU was unable to convert on its three power-play opportunities in the contest, while Minnesota finished two-of-three on the advantage and outshot the Mavericks 47-24.
 
Butters ended with a game-high 40 saves, and sophomore Amanda Leveille registered 24 saves in the shutout for UM.
 
Minnesota State is idle next week before traveling north for a collision with Bemidji State Nov. 15-16.
