Fifth-Rated Mavericks Shoot Past Jamestown

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- The #5 Minnesota State men's basketball team kept its momentum going Sunday afternoon in Taylor Center as it defeated the Jamestown Jimmies 81-59.

With the win, MSU improves to 4-1 on the season, while Jamestown's record remains unchanged at 3-4.

A total of five Mavericks dropped in at least 11 points on the day including seniors Tanner Adler and Gage Wooten who tallied 19 points and 16 points, respectively. Adler brought down nine rebounds and connected on 3-of-7 attempts from beyond the arc, while Wooten made every shot he took, including a 6-of-6 showing from the field and a 3-of-3 mark from the line.

Junior Zach Romashko added 14 points and nine rebounds, while senior Connor O'Brien tallied 13 points, while shooting 7-of-7 from the charity stripe. Senior Alex Hanks added 11 points as well.

As a team, MSU shot 54.2 % (26-of-48) from the field and 50% (8-of-16) from beyond the three point line. The Mavericks also passed out 19 assists and brought down 48 rebounds.

Jamestown was led by Mark Hoge who posted a team-high 10 points. The Jimmies connected on 23-of-71 (.324) shots from the field and passed out 11 assists.

The first half saw a couple of lead changes early, but MSU quickly early asserted itself as it built an 11-point lead at 15-4 with 12:26 left in the first half. The Mavericks continued to extend their lead as they took a 23-point lead at 49-26 into the locker room.

Adler led the Maverick offense with 16 first half points, while shooting a perfect 6-of-6 from the field. Wooten dropped in 10 points as well, while bringing down three assists. Junior Zach Romashko added six points and five rebounds in the first half as well.

As a team, MSU shot 17-of-24 (.708) from the field, including a 7-of-10 showing from beyond the arc. The Mavericks also passed out 14 assists and brought down 20 rebounds.   

The second half featured a closer affair as the Jimmies outscored the Mavericks 33-32. Jamestown managed to get within 16 points of MSU late in the second frame but it would get no closer as MSU secured the 81-59 win.

Romashko led MSU in the second half with eight points, while Wooten added six points of his own.

The Mavericks continue their homestand Tuesday as they square off against the Clarke Crusdaers. The opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
