#24 MSU Hosts Two NSIC Foes This Weekend

What's on Tap: Minnesota State (2-1-1, 1-0-0 NSIC) continues it's six-game homestand facing Minnesota, Crookston (0-4-0, 0-1-0 NSIC) Saturday at 1 pm. and Bemidji State (3-1-0, 1-0-0 NSIC) Sunday at 1 p.m.

Recapping Last Weekend's Action: MSU kicked off it's homestand with a resounding 4-1 victory over Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday afternoon. Sophomore midfielder Sydney Temple's first career goal proved to be the game-winner. The Mavericks outshot the Golden Bears 35-5.

    Minnesota State tied #2 Grand Valley State 0-0 in 2OT Sunday. Sophomore goalkeeper Molly McGough made four saves to record her first shutout of the season. MSU outshot the Lakers 15-10 in the match.

Scouting the Golden Eagles: Minnesota, Crookston (0-4-0, 0-1-0 NSIC) travels to Mankato after falling twice last week.  UMC lost 0-1 to Bemdji State and 0-2 to MSU-Moorhead.  The Golden Eagles have failed to score a goal this season, but have allowed only six in four games. UMC has been outshot 35-48 this season.

    Sophomore goalkeeper Drew Underdahl has started three of four games for UMC while recording 10 saves and posting a 1.33 GAA.  Senior defense Megan Flynn and junior forward Nikki Hammond are tied for the team-lead with eight shots a piece.

Inside the MSU/UMC Series: Minnesota State has never lost to Minnesota, Crookston posting a 5-0 all-time record against the Golden Eagles in a series that streches back to 1999.  MSU defeated UMC 2-0 last season in Crookston behind two goals from senior forward Brittany Henry. The Mavericks hold a 32-2 all-time scoring advantage over the Golden Eagles.

Scouting the Beavers: Bemidji State (3-1-0, 1-0-0) will drive down U.S. 169 this weekend after winning its NSIC-opener last weekend 1-0 over Minnesota, Crookston.  The Beavers have outscored their opponents 6-4 this season with their lone loss coming to NCAA Division I North Dakota State 1-2 in double overtime.

    BSU is led offensively by junior midfielder Tiffany VanHaaften and sophomore forward Mary O'Brien. Both players are tied with a team-high two goals, and VanHaaften is tied for the team-lead with two assists.  Sophomore goalkeeper Sonja Barr has been solid in net posting a 0.40 GAA and a .909 save percentage while starting all four games. Barr has also tallied 10 saves and one shutout this season.

Inside the MSU/BSU Series: The Mavericks hold a 6-1-1 all-time record over the Beavers in a series dating back to 1996. MSU was 1-0-1 last season against BSU earning a 1-0 shootout win in the NSIC tournament first-round. The last five matches between the two teams have been decided by a goal or tied.  Bemidji State was the last team to defeat the Mavericks at home, posting a 1-0 win in 2010. MSU holds a 4-2 scoring advantage over the Beavers since 2008.

Shots Galore: Minnesota State collected 35 shots in last Thursday's conference-opener against Concordia-St. Paul.  That shot total is the third-most in a single game in school history.  The single-game record of 41 occurred Oct. 29th last season in a 0-0 2OT tie at Bemidji State.

Hot Out of the Gate: Freshman forward Korey Kronforst, a Cary, Ill. native, scored twice in a 4-1 win over Concordia-St. Paul last Thursday.  She has now tallied a team-high three goals in her first four collegiate games. Kronforst also leads the team in shot percentage scoring on .750% of her shots.

First Time for Everything: Sophomore midfielder Sydney Temple scored her first goal as a Maverick, which proved to be the game-winner in a 4-1 victory over Concordia-St. Paul last Thursday.
