Mavericks Down Cardinals to Close Out Florida Trip

   Winter Haven, Fla. --- Held scoreless through the first three innings, 16th-rated Minnesota State busted out for six runs in the fourth en route to a 10-3 nonconference win over Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) in closing out its spring trip to Florida.

The Mavericks, who outhit the Cardinals by a 16-11 margin in the game, where led offensively by freshman designated hitter Nolan Johnson, who was three-for-four with three runs scored and his first career home run. Freshman shortstop Connor McCallum, who made his first career start, was three-for-three with two runs scored and a run batted in.

Senior righty Harvey Martin, who limited SVSU to three earned runs in seven innings of work while allowing ten hits and striking out five, upped his record to 4-0 with the win. Junior Aaron Page and sophomore Jordan Krause each through an inning of scoreless relief for the Mavericks, who went 4-2 in six games in the Sunshine State.

Now 9-3 on the year, Minnesota State's next game is March 24 when it hosts Minnesota Duluth in a NSIC double header.
