Aberdeen, S.D. -- After losing four consecutive matches, Minnesota State put together back-to-back decision wins, but it was not enough, as MSU fell to Northern State 18-17 in NSIC dual action.
The dual started at 141-lb with a MSU forfeit, giving NSU a 6-0 lead. Following the forfeit, MSU would rally off three bouts in a row starting at 149-lb with
Jesse Westphal defeating Gavin Larsen in a 7-2 decision.
After Westphal got the Mavericks on the board, senior
Tel Todd (10-2) and freshman
Cody Quinn (13-1) both recorded major decision wins to put MSU up 11-6.
The Wolves would win the next four matches, all via decisions, to capture an 18-11 lead that they would not relinquish.
David Demo went on to defeat Anthony Bruno 5-3 at 125-lb and
Brian Reisenauer defeated Ian Muirhead 8-6 in OT.
The 18-17 win marks the first time that Northern State has defeated Minnesota State in ten meetings.
