Box Score Winona, Minn. – The Minnesota State volleyball team took to the road as it faced conference-foe Winona State Saturday afternoon, in the Mavericks first match that extended more than three sets since Oct. 12 against the University of Mary. Minnesota State fell to Winona State 3-2, by scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19 and 15-12 dropping to 17-9 on the season and 11-7 in the NSIC.
The Mavericks dropped the first set to the Warriors 25-23. Minnesota State hit .279 in the set compared to .250 by Winona State but had its efforts come up short as they trailed 1-0 in the match. Senior outside hitter #
Chelsea Fogarty# recorded a team-high five kills in the set.
The Mavericks held the lead for the majority of the second set, before the Warriors tied things up at 20-20 before head coach Dennis Amundson used his first time-out. Following the time-out, senior outside hitter #
Courteney Steinhauser# earned the Mavericks a 21-20 lead, before Minnesota State went on the win the set 25-22. Winona State’s Rachel Pollard committed an attacking error giving the Mavericks set-point.
Minnesota State found itself down 4-0 early in the third set before battling back, to take an 8-6 lead before Winona State rallied bringing the score the score to 16-11 in favor of the Warriors. The Mavericks couldn’t find their stride offensively as they fell in the set 25-22, and trailed 2-1 in the match heading into the fourth set.
The fourth set saw an 11-10 Mavericks lead, before they were able to stretch the lead to 15-10 forcing Winona to use a timeout.
Minnesota State won the set 25-19 forcing a fifth set.
Minnesota State entered the contest with a 4-0 record in matches that extended to five sets, but were unable to come away with the fifth set victory as it fell in the set 15-12, falling to the Warriors 3-2.
The Mavericks hit .207 in the match compared to .190 by the Warriors, but were unable to capitalize, as they fell 3-2. Minnesota State was led by Fogarty who contributed 14 kills and 10 digs. Steinhauser finished the match with 11 kills and seniors #

Minnesota State will play its final regular season matches next weekend as they travel to Marshall, Minn. and Sioux Falls, S.D. to square off against Southwest Minnesota State and Augustana respectively, first serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday evening in Marshall.
