#3 Minnesota State Heads North for October's First Road Trip

Mankato, Minn. --- What's on Tap:  The Minnesota State women's soccer team (10-1-1, 7-0-0 NSIC) heads north for two of six remaining NSIC matches to take on Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud State.

Recapping Last Weekend's Action:  MSU continued to roll over NSIC opponents this season taking it to Augustana 4-0 last Friday as senior forward Nicole Dooher set a single-game career high with three assists in the match.

Dooher continued her stellar play of late tallying the game-winner by re-directing a Cassie Weik corner kick for the matches lone goal as Minnesota State won 1-0.  Sophomore goalkeeper Molly McGough posted her seventh straight shutout as the Mavericks won their eighth straight contest are are unbeaten in their last 21 matches at home.

Scouting the Bulldogs:  Minnesota Duluth (3-4-2, 4-5-2 NSIC) finished last weekend 1-1 dropping U-Mary 2-0 before being clipped 1-0 by Minot State.  The Bulldogs are in the midst of a four-game homestand and have outscored counterparts 17-15 through eleven matches.

    Junior forward Dani Potter leads the UMD offense amassing team-highs in goals (4), points (11), while sitting second in assists (3).  Freshman goalkeeper Marissa Rosa ranks seventh in the conference with a 0.90 GAA and eighth in save percentage at .816. The Bulldogs are outshooting opponents 198-119 this year.

Inside the MSU/UMD Series: Minnesota State owns a 13-8-2 all-time record over the Bulldogs in a series dating back to 1995.  MSU is 3-3 the past three seasons against UMD including a 1-0 defeat and 4-0 victory in the NSIC tournament a year ago.

Scouting the Huskies: St. Cloud State (5-4-0, 6-5-1 NSIC) matched Minnesota Duluth's 1-1 record last weekend dropping to Minot State 3-1 before rebounding to defeat U-Mary 2-1.  Becky Heiberger-McCabe is in her 5th season as head coach of the Huskies.

Seven Huskies are tied for the team-lead with two goals a piece.  Junior netminder Kenzie Hanzlik has started eight matches posting a1.09 GAA and .781 save percentage. St. Cloud State has matched opponents scoring 15 goals and allowing 15 this year.

Inside the MSU/SCSU Series:  The Mavericks are 19-5-1 all-time against St. Cloud State dating back to 1995 and have won 12 of 13 matches against the Huskies since 2005. Minnesota State has won four straight inlcuding defeating SCSU 4-1, and 1-0 last year.

Home Sweet Home:  The Mavericks are 7-0-1 at the Pitch at Gage Towers this season and currently in the midst of a school-record 21 game home unbeaten streak dating back to 2010.

Keep on Streaking:  Along with its home unbeaten streak, Minnesota State is unbeaten in its last ten games and has won eight straight contests.

Climbing the Ranks: After debuting at #24 in the NSCAA Poll, MSU has moved up five consecutive weeks and now sits at #3.  The highest the Mavericks have ever been ranked in the NSCAA was fourth on October 23, 2007. Minnesota State also holds the top spot in the Central Region poll.

Dooher
Nationally Known:  The Mavericks rank 11th in the nation in scoring average with a 2.92 goals/game mark.  Minnesota State is also 6th in the country in scoring defense at 0.41 goals/game. Individually,  Nicole Dooher (right) sits third nationally with ten assists on the year, while Molly McGough ranks fifth in GAA at 0.35.

Leading the Way:  Minnesota State currently leads the NSIC in nearly every major statistical category including shots (277), points (115), goals (35), assists (45), goals allowed (5), and is tied for first in shutouts (8). Dooher ranks first in the conference in assists (10) and tied for third in points (18). Senior Brianne West and junior Tori Meinhardt are tied for fourth in the NSIC with five assists a piece

How We Stand:  MSU currently owns sole possession of first-place in the NSIC at 9-0-0. Winona State sits one game behind at 8-1-0 with Bemidji State 1.5 games behind at 7-1-1.

The Road Ahead:  Minnesota State will wraps up its regular season with five of six road matches.  MSU will host Winona State Friday Oct. 26th at 4 p.m. in its final regular-season home match.
