Kenosha, Wis. – No. 17 Minnesota State traveled to Kenosha, Wis. to compete in the Ranger Duals. The duals include MSU, Indianapolis, Ashland, Findlay and host UW-Parkside.
MSU opened with a 23-13 loss to No. 18 Ashland. Sophomore 125-lb
David Demo opened the dual with an 8-0 major decision win over Brandon Davis.
Ashland would win the next three matches to take a 10-4 lead heading into the 157-lb showdown. Senior
Tel Todd defeated Daniel Genetin 6-1 to start a three-match streak for MSU. Freshman
Cody Quinn went on to defeat Thomas Graszl in a 4-1 decision. Sophomore
Brendan Eichmann’s 6-0 decision win at 174-lb was the last time that MSU would score as Ashland won the last three matches, including a major decision win and a forfeit.
MSU fell to Indianapolis 27-18 in the second bout of the duals. After Demo fell at the 2:26 mark in the 125-lb match, senior 133-lb #Brian Reisenauer won via a forfeit.
Following back-to-back falls, Todd pinned Bryce Givens at 7:19. The two teams would trade decision wins the rest of the way, giving Indianapolis the 27-17 victory.
MSU closed the day by falling to No. 16 Findlay 27-6.
After losing the first three matches, 149-lb
Jesse Westphal defeated Jeremy Espinoza in a 6-3 decision. Todd continued the surge by defeating Alex Betts 5-2. Findlay won the remaining matches sealing the victory.
MSU will begin conference dual actions Thursday, January 26 as they travel to Upper Iowa.
