Box Score FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Minnesota State volleyball team began the season on a high note Thursday night as they defeated Alaska Fairbanks 3-0 in the team’s first match of the season.
The Mavericks took a close game one, 25-23, as they were led by senior setter
Brittany Stamer who recorded 11 assists. Sophomore outside hitter
Jenna McNallan also contributed seven digs in the game one victory.
Minnesota State trailed 4-1 early in game two but responded quickly as they put together a 7-2 run during the serve of junior defensive specialist
Samantha Dale to take an 8-6 lead. The Mavericks never surrendered the lead the rest of the set as they took game two, 25-18.
The Mavericks jumped out to an early 8-1 lead in game three thanks in large part to junior middle blocker
Jill Storlie who connected on three early kills. The Mavericks maintained the lead from this point as they captured a 25-19 win.
The Mavericks were led offensively by Storlie’s 11 kills. Stamer paced the Mavericks with a game high 33 assists while senior defensive specialist
Alli Rice recorded 13 digs.
The Mavericks begin play in the Alaska Fairbanks Tournament Friday as they are set to face Grand Canyon State. MSU will wrap up the tournament on Saturday with games against Alaska Fairbanks and Dallas Baptist.
