Junior Aaron Norgren earned his 22nd win of the season Thursday night

Mavericks Fall to No. 3 St. Cloud State

St. Cloud, Minn.The No. 8 Minnesota State Mavericks lost their regular season finale on Thursday night as they fell 25-9 to the No. 3 St. Cloud State Huskies. The dual decided who would finish second-place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference behind first-place Augustana.
 
The Mavericks got out to a fast start as senior Andy Forstner (No. 4, 125-lbs) won a 5-4 decision over Dylan Wright giving MSU an early 3-0 advantage.
 
However, the Mavericks wouldn’t win another match until the 184-lb match as junior Aaron Norgren (No. 6, 184-lbs) won a 2-1 decision over Michael Berg. The win gives Norgren a 22-8 overall record while improving to 13-1 in dual matches this season.
 
The only other Maverick to earn a win was the seventh-ranked junior Pat Mahan. Mahan won the 197-lb match aginast No. 6 Lucas Munkelwitz with a 3-2 win by decision. Mahan now holds an 8-6 overall record and a 7-4 record in dual matches.
 
Minnesota State won just one of their matches against the six Huskies who are ranked in their respective individual weight classes. St. Cloud State’s Gabriel Suarez (No. 8, 141-lbs), Jacob Horn (No. 6, 149-lbs), John Sundgren (No. 2, 157-lbs), Tad Merritt (No. 2, 165-lbs) and Jake Kahnke (No. 1, 285-lbs) all won their individual matches securing the victory for the Huskies. 
 
The loss gives the Mavericks a third-place finish in the NSIC as they finish the regular season 9-5 overall and 5-2 in NSIC action. The win gives St. Cloud State a second-place finish in the NSIC as they finish 19-2 overall and 6-1 in the NSIC.
 
Minnesota State will next be in action February 27 as they compete in the NCAA Division II Regional in Sioux Falls, S.D.
