Winona, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball squad defeated Winona State, 3-0. MSU rolled to the three set victory with scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-14.
Senior outside hitter Amanda Beekman continued to lead the Mavericks in the kills category, using 20 attempts to generate nine kills, giving her a .350 hitting percentage. Beekman now owns a team-high 101 kills in 2010.
Others contributing to MSU’s scoring attack were sophomore middle blocker Courtney Steinhauser who kills eight attempts and seniors Amanda Thompson and Kimber Kuhl who each tallied six kills.
Junior setter Brittany Stamer finished the match with a team-best 33 assists, bumping her season total to 331. Fellow junior Alli Rice led MSU with 19 digs, while Beekman also tallied 10 digs.
"All around it was a solid performance for an opening conference season," said head coach Dennis Amundson. "Rice did a nice job keeping the offense in rhythm, while Stamer did a good job distributing the ball. It was a good way to start the conference season."
The Mavericks (9-0 overall, 1-0 NSIC) will continue conference this Saturday in Marshall, Minn. where they will face the fifth-ranked Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs.
