Mavericks in First-Place After Day One of NSIC Championship

MOORHEAD, Minn.--- The Minnesota State mens track and field team participated in the first day of the NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday. The Mavericks finish day one in first place with 49.5 points.

 

Senior James Krasja earned 10 points for MSU by taking first-place in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 31:11.30, while freshman Jacob Bastyr took fourth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 32:09.47, earning the Maverick five points.

 

In the pole vault competition, sophomore Dan Novak grabbed first with a vault of 4.97 meters, earning 10 points, while freshman Matt Masloski took second with a height of 4.87 meters earning MSU eight points. Junior Nick Yesner also earned MSU a point by finishing eighth in the pole vault (4.57 meters).

 

Senior Michael Robinson grabbed MSU six more points in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.45 meters, good enough for a third-place finish.

 

Senior Chris Nowlin took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.88 meters, tacking on five more for the Mavericks, while freshman Jack Reisner took seventh in the high jump (1.92m) earning MSU 1.5 points.

 

Last week senior Lucas Torres grabbed sixth in the decathlon, earning the Mavericks three more points.

 

MSU also saw eleven more runners advance to tomorrow's finals, including senior Denise Mokaya in the 1500-meter run and the 800-meter run. Senior Jonathan Stoltman and senior James Krajsa each advanced in 1500-meter run. Freshman Robert Gunderson advanced in the 110-meter hurdles, freshman Nick Nelson in the 100-meter dash, freshman Austin Eliason in the 200-meter dash, Torres in the 400 meter hurdles, Stoltman in the 800-meter run and Lance and junior Adam Endres each advanced in the 400-meter dash.

 

The Mavericks tracksters will wrap up competition in the NSIC Championships tomorrow.
