Mankato, Minn. – With the 2009-10 season in the books, it’s time to look at the season that was....
Season Accomplishments: The 2009-10 season has seen its share of up’s and down’s as the young team builds for the future and says goodbye to two leaders that will be greatly missed.
Minnesota State finished the season 15-13 overall and 10-10 in the NSIC, claiming eighth place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Mavericks earned a spot in the 2010 NSIC/Sanford Health Basketball Tournament.
The Mavericks broke the all-time record for best free throw percentage in a single season shooting .738 percent from the free throw line. The previous record was held by the 1998-1999 team with .735 percent.
All-Conference Picks: The Mavericks two senior leaders Tiffany Moe and Liz Trauger were chosen as
NSIC All-Conference First Team members.
Trauger received the
2010 Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award and was named
ESPN the Magazine All-District V Second Team member.
Team Awards:
The team dished out awards at their annual end of the year banquet which was held Saturday (4/10). The awards were voted on by the team.
This year’s awards went to:
Most Valuable Player: Liz Trauger
Best Defensive Player: Tiffany Moe
Most Improved: Laura Weber
All Good Things: The Minnesota State women’s basketball team will say good-bye to two of its seniors this season,
Tiffany Moe and
Liz Trauger.
Moe finished the season as second leading scorer, averaging 12.9 points per game and leading the team in assists with 5.1 assists per game. She recorded a season-high 20 points against Mary (12/11).
Trauger finished the season as leading scorer, averaging 14.3 points per game and second leading rebounder with 6.3 rebounds per game. She recorded two double-doubles during the season. Trauger tallied a season-high 28 points against Minnesota Crookston (2/5).
All-Time: The 2009-10 season marked the 45th year of women’s basketball as a varsity sport at Minnesota State. MSU currently holds a 578-520 (.526) and has made three NCAA Tournament Appearances in 1986, 2008 and 2009.
Who We Are: According to official University guidelines, there are only three acceptable usages of the school name. The first official acceptable name is “Minnesota State University, Mankato” and is to only be used on the first reference of the school. Following that, the only other acceptable usages of the school name are “Minnesota State,” or “MSU”.
