Box Score Mankato, Minn.-- The 25th-ranked Minnesota State women’s basketball team flexed its offensive power in earning an 85-47 nonconference win over visiting Dakota State 85-47 Tuesday.
The win marks the third straight victory for the Mavericks this season.
MSU came out firing from all cylinders in the first half, jumping out to an early 10-2 lead in the first three minutes. Seven minutes into the game, the Mavericks went on a 23-4 run in the middle of the half that lasted just over 12 minutes, giving MSU a 41-14 lead.
Minnesota State guards
Lauren Barber and
Andrea Walsh showed an impressive first half. Walsh nabbed four steals and Barber would shoot 3-of-5 from beyond the arc as the Mavericks went into the half with a 46-20 lead over Dakota State.
MSU shot 56 percent from the field in the first half and earned 19 points off turnovers.
The Mavericks would maintain control as they would go on a 17-3 run midway through the second half.
Jennie Noreen would capitalize with three lay-ups in 25 seconds during the run. Noreen would also post a career-high of seven assists against Dakota State.
Minnesota State junior
Brittany Thiesfeld scored a career-high 16 points, marking 31 points in the last two games. Thiesfeld would shoot 7-of-9 from the floor.
Ali Wilkinson would score ten points in the game, marking her third-straight game in double-digit points.
The 16 active Mavericks all saw action tonight, including
Kirstin Nelson who went 3-of-3 from three-point range and
Casey Christian who was 3-of-4 from the field.
Minnesota State finished the night shooting 52 percent from the floor, with the Trojans shooting 38 percent. MSU would have 15 steals, 24 assists and 34 points in the paint on the night.
The Mavericks are now 3-0 this season and look to close out their nonconference schedule Saturday at UW-Eau Claire. The tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
