Box Score Mankato, Minn.—The sixth-ranked Minnesota State Mavericks defeated the Buena Vista Beavers Tuesday evening, 91-61.
The win marks the first victory against Buena Vista in program history for the Mavericks. The victory is the 567th win for the program and the 12th, 4-0 start in program history.
Starting off the first half with the first two points was senior guard
Tiffany Moe with two points. With 10 minutes left in the first half the Mavericks held a nine-point lead. Leading scorers in the first half were senior forward
Liz Trauger with 10 points and freshman guard
Sarah Wiens with nine points. Moe pulled away three steals in the first half, while the Mavericks earned 18 points off Beaver turnovers.
The Mavericks entered the second half with a 13-point lead. Minnesota State scored 30 points off the bench in the second half, and earned 13 points off of Beaver turnovers. The Beavers only captured five points off of MSU turnovers.
Minnesota State 84 percent from the free throw line and scored on 10 fast break plays. The Mavericks totaled 43 rebounds, 20 assists, 13 steals and three blocks in the victory. Leading the Mavericks was Trauger with 17 points, shooting 6-6 at the free throw line, 1-1 three-point shot, and 5-6 in field. Sophomore guard
Jennie Noreen totaled 12 points, while Wiens and freshman forward
Ali Wilkinson put down 11 points.
The Mavericks increase their record to 4-0, and will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. this weekend to take on Northern State Saturday at 1 p.m. in the 2009 Holiday Hoopsfest.
