What’s in a Win: A win Tuesday would mark the 567th win in program history...It would also be the tenth consecutive victory for the Mavericks..A win would be the 76th at Taylor Center and seventh consecutive home victory...A victory would mark the 12th 4-0 start by the Mavericks in program history and third consecutive 4-0 start.
MSU-Buena VistaNotables: This will be the first match-up between the MSU Mavericks and the Buena Vista Beavers.
Beaver Beats: Buena Vista University is located in Stormlake, Iowa and are a part of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC). The Beavers ended their 2008-09 campaign with an overall record of 18-9 and 10-6 IIAC (4th). Since last season they have lost two starters and return three. Starters returning for the Beavers are: Margo Muhlbauer, Aubrey Hauswirth and Jen Allen. Muhlbauer led the conference in scoring the past two seasons averaging 19.5 ppg.
In the 2009-10 IIAC Women’s Basketball Pre-Season Coaches Poll, the Beavers earned one first place vote and tied for third place with 55 points. Buena Vista has started their 2009-10 season 3-0, earning their last victory against a fellow NSIC opponent of the Mavericks, Bemidji State, 75-67. In the first three games the Beavers averaged 82.3 ppg, with Muhlbauer averaging 26.3 ppg.
All-Time: The 2009-10 season marks the 45th year of women’s basketball as a varsity sport at Minnesota State. MSU currently holds a 566-508 (.527) and has made three NCAA Tournament Appearances in 1986, 2008 and 2009.
Who We Are: According to official University guidelines, there are only three acceptable usages of the school name. The first official acceptable name is “Minnesota State University, Mankato” and is to only be used on the first reference of the school. Following that, the only other acceptable usages of the school name are “Minnesota State,” or “MSU” and no others.
